Here's to the Shutter Slingers!

Thanks to a few few SL3S Shutter Slingers we got our contest off the ground.  Learn you a bit more about the SL3S contest and rules click here. Cast a Rustlers Choose ballot for QQR2's entries here. As there's no way to stop a rustler you can vote a many times as you want!

Below are all 24 entries from three Shutter Slingers entered in Quarterly Qualifying Round 1 (QQR1). The Slingers took these photos on the Sheldon Lake SP spread between July 1 and September 30, 2009 in four categories: Flora (plants); Fauna (critters); People in the Park (folks at the park); and Scenic (catch all for any photo).

Photos are lettered (e.g. FAa) at the top and the winners and favorites are marked as follows:

CATEGORY WINNER - Official winning entriy. A photo that will be in the final, Bounty Round where the cash-money prizes are awarded.

RUSTLERS' CHOICE - Tabulated from the Rustlers Choose ballots. Anyone can fill out a Ruslters Choose ballot. The ballot and voting is just like them official judges. The photographer whose entries garner the most Rustler beads over the four QQR's will win the SL3S "Rustlers' Choice Award."

PHOTO WRANGLER'S "FAVORITE OF THE QQR" - Like the lowest ranch hand, the Photo Wrangler spends most his time working with the stock and getting it "ballot ready" for the judges. What the Photo Wrangler thinks don't count for nothing in the selection of the winners. Still, every, humble Photo Wrangler has his favorite.

FLORA

The subjects of the flora photo entries are plants (i.e. flowers, trees). Judges were asked to pick which photo entries captured the plant/s as they may be encountered at the park; how well a photo showed its subject's place in the environment and interconnectedness with other elements of the habitat; and the quality of the photo and composition keeping in mind the difficulty in getting the shot.

PEOPLE IN THE PARK

The subjects of people-in-the-park entries are...well...people in the park! There are many activities at the park for this category. Judge how well a photo entry captures a person/s as you might encounter them. Judge how well a photo shows its subject's place in the environment and interconnectedness with other elements of the habitat. Lastly, judge the quality of the photo while keeping in mind the difficulty in getting the shot

You have 1 bead to award!

SCENIC

The subjects of scenic entries are...well...everything! It is a catch-all category that let the photographer capture things like a sunset or wide shot of the lake. A scenic photo allows a bit more creativity for the Shutter Slinger to use light and contrast, juxtaposition and artistic flair.

Because of the open ended-ness of the category it might be hardest to judge. Judges are asked to determine which captured and composed a scene; how well it showed the environment and interconnectedness of nature; and the quality of the photo, composition, light and keep in mind the artistic bent of the shot.
