Thanks and Congratulations!
The subjects of the flora photo entries are plants (i.e. flowers, trees). Judge how well a photo entry captures the plant/s as they may be encountered at the park. Judge how well a photo shows its subject's place in the environment and interconnectedness with other elements of the habitat. Lastly, judge the quality of the photo and composition while keeping in mind the difficulty in getting the shot.
You have 5 beads to award!
Just over 183 photos taken between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010 were submitted in the Sheldon Lake Shutter Slingers Shootout (SL3S). Twelve Shutter Slingers registered in the Bounty Hunter Division and three in the Greenhorn Division (under 18).
Below are the sixteen winning photos from the four Quarterly Qualifying Rounds (QQR). The QQR's had four entry categories: Fauna (89 entries), Flora (34 entries), People-in-the-Park (17 entries) and Scenic (43 entries). Overall ten judges, three judges per quarter, selected the QQR winners in the four categories. Judges were selected from the FOSL board, SLSP staff and from the community.
The Bounty Round had no categories. The sixteen QQR winning entries were judged as one group by TPWD Park Superintendent Robert Comstock. Superintendent Comstock knows the SLSP spread pretty well, he's been the park superintendent since SLSP was designated a state park in 1981.
All entries in all phases of the contest were judged on how well the photo showed its subject's place in the SLSP environment and interconnectedness with other elements of SLSP's many habitats. Lastly, judges were asked to score based on the quality of the photo and composition while keeping in mind the difficulty in getting the shot.
